The electronic components that can produce inductance are called inductors, commonly known as coils, and are one of the commonly used basic electronic components. There are various types and shapes, and this article mainly takes you to understand what an inductor is, the structure and principle of an inductor, and how can we distinguish them?

1、 Working principle of inductor (coil):

Simply put, an inductor is a component that converts electrical energy into magnetic energy and stores it. It is explained by the following three points: 1. When alternating current is applied to the coil, an alternating magnetic field is generated around the inductor, which is called the primary magnetic field. 2. When direct current is applied to the inductor, a constant magnetic field is generated around the inductor with no change in direction. According to the law of inductance, changes in magnetic flux cause the generation of electromotive force within a conductor. The phenomenon of induced electromotive force (EMF) generated due to changes in the current inside the inductor (because AC current is being applied) is called self induction. Inductance is used to represent self inductance characteristics.

2、 Inductor (coil) structure:

The simplest inductive coil is to use a hollow wire to wind a few turns, while an inductor with a magnetic or iron core is to use a wire to wind a few turns on the magnetic or iron core

3、 Characteristics of inductors:

When an inductor is used alone in a circuit, it sometimes needs to form a functional circuit or unit circuit with other electronic components. There are three main applications: 1. LC series resonant circuit composed of capacitors; 3. Form an LC parallel resonant circuit with capacitors; 3. Separate use to form a filtering circuit; When analyzing circuits containing inductors, we must grasp their main characteristics in order to better analyze the results.

3、 Measurement of inductors:

It is to measure the quality factor, current, DC impedance, packaging size, temperature resistance, and solderability of inductors, which can be measured using inductance measuring instruments or bridge bridges.

4、 Precautions for inductors:

1. Avoid humid and dry environments, high and low temperatures, high-frequency or low-frequency environments. 2. Whether it meets the requirements of the application, choose the appropriate circuit inductor, choose the original one, and the rated current is closer. 4. Do not tamper with the coil to change the spacing, otherwise it will change the original inductance; 5. Do not use regular candles for sealing.
