Characteristics of environmental sensitivity of soft magnetic materials

Oct 02, 2023

The usage environment can have an impact on the performance of soft magnetic materials, but this impact can also be utilized to develop new functions of soft magnetic alloys. Some researchers are currently working on the relationship between soft magnetic materials and the surrounding environment.

For soft magnetic alloys, even in weak magnetic fields, a narrow hysteresis loop can be induced, which makes this type of alloy potentially applicable in some new fields, such as high-frequency induction. Currently, scholars have conducted extensive research in this field, utilizing soft magnetic materials to pair microelectronic sensors to improve their performance, reduce the size of sensor components, and fully utilize the high magnetic permeability characteristics of soft magnetic materials.

Soft magnetic materials are very sensitive to magnetic fields and other environmental factors such as temperature and stress. Therefore, in order to accurately predict the performance level of related equipment made of soft magnetic materials, it is necessary to analyze and understand the environmental sensitivity characteristics of soft magnetic materials.

The influence of magnetic field

A basic feature of magnetic materials is that they are placed in a magnetic field to interact with their internal magnetic moments, resulting in a direction consistent with the applied external magnetic field, which is commonly known as "magnetization". Magnetization is divided into spontaneous magnetization and non spontaneous magnetization. If the internal magnetic moments of the material are completely reversed, the magnetization of the material is 0; if the magnetic moments are arranged regularly in a certain direction, the magnetization of the material is not 0.

When a magnetic material is subjected to an external magnetic field, its magnetic moment direction will rotate in the direction of the external magnetic field. This means that the material exhibits anisotropy and enhances in the direction of the applied external magnetic field. The high-frequency performance of such materials can be characterized by their intrinsic properties under a certain magnetic field.

On the one hand, this environmental sensitivity can be used to modify magnetic materials. If the original material has good performance at low frequencies, apply a suitable magnetic field in a certain direction to improve its high-frequency characteristics. On the other hand, due to the presence of magnetic inclusions, the performance of mobile phone filters can be affected by the geomagnetic field, and this effect is harmful.

The influence of temperature

If a magnet is heated to a certain temperature, it will not attract iron, and the temperature at which the magnet loses its magnetism is called the Curie temperature. However, the disappearance of magnetism does not suddenly occur. The saturation magnetic induction of magnetic materials gradually decreases with the increase of temperature, and the suction force also gradually decreases.

Saturated magnetic induction is a static magnetic characteristic parameter that is determined by the composition and organizational structure of magnetic materials. The saturation magnetic induction of magnetic materials directly affects their frequency response characteristics, as well as the form and degree of their permeability frequency characteristics.
